Chris Lane Blows Field Away on St. Johns River
Closest competitor more than 14 pounds away
Stren pro Chris Lane of Guntersville, Ala., amassed 90 pounds, 13 ounces over the four-day B.A.S.S. Elite Series event on the St. Johns River system this past weekend. He won the event by a margin more than 14 pounds. With the victory, Lane seized his sixth Bassmaster victory and punched his ticket to the 2015 Bassmaster Classic.
The primary weapon for Lane’s victory was Stren 65-pound Sonic Braid. Lane said, “The line was stout and sensitive, which is crucial when targeting fish in lily pads.” Lane used a new line of All Star rods, set to launch at ICAST, paired with Abu Garcia Revo reels to complete the rig.
“I’m happy to get this win in Florida,” said Lane. “This was my style of fishing for sure. I kept my head down after the first day and was able to push through for the win. Stren was vital to my success. I targeted fish in the lily pads, and those can wreak havoc on fishing lines so having a line you can trust is brutally important.”
The tourney winner fished in an area called Dexter’s that held enough big fish to sustain his run. Lane either cast into Dexter’s pads or punched a jig into the vegetation, targeting largemouth bass that were prespawners and postspawners.
