Stren and Get lit are no stranger to winning big tournaments. Get Lit, owned by Miami angler Kit Toomey and Captained by Quinton Dieterle, claimed another victory in Key West Fla., this past week using 20-pound Stren Stamina with a 40-pound Stren Tinted Fluorocarbon leader. The victory at the 2009 World Sailfish Championships earned them bragging rights and a hefty check of $340,825.
“This event was won using Stren Stamina,” said Toomey. “This is the only line we will use. Sailfish are torture with line and the Stamina can withstand the punishment. I couldn’t imagine using anything but Stamina.”
The history of Get Lit and Key West Fla., began in 2003 and continued in 2007 where Get Lit won Sailfish World Championships both times. In 2009, Get Lit grabbed the championship by catching and releasing 22 sailfish - despite a missed meal.
"We never ate on the boat during the entire tournament — we were very focused," said Toomey." It's how you react when things go wrong that can result in extra fish, and every fish counts. Our gear never failed us. That is why we use the Penn International 16VS reel. The Penn International outlasts the competition and has enough fight in it for another round."
